Regional Course on Statistics on Informality: Informal economy, work and employment

The Regional Course on Statistics on Informality: Informal economy, work and employment will be conducted from 6 to 10 July 2015 in Chiba, Japan. The course is organized by the Statistical Institute for Asia and the Pacific (SIAP), a regional institution of the United States Economic and Social Commission for Asia and Pacific (ESCAP), in collaboration with the Statistics Division of ESCAP, International Labour Organization (ILO); Women in Inforrmal Employment: Globalizing and Organizing (WIEGO); and the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, Government of Japan (MIC).
This regional course aims to promote and improve the collection of data and statistics on informal employment and employment in the informal sector as an integral part of national labour force statistics in Asia and the Pacific. It is designed to provide technical information and illustrations of good practices on collecting and tabulating data on informal employment and employment in the informal sector, and categories of informal workers as well as related data needed for the preparation of national accounts.
The target participants of the course are senior and middle level statisticians and officials from national statistical offices or ministries of labour and employment whose main responsibilities include working on labour force statistics as survey statisticians and/or data analysts in support of policy analysis on informal sector and informal employment. 22 participants from Bhutan, China, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Maldives, Mongolia, Pakistan, Philippines, Solomon Islands, Sri Lanka and Thailand are expected to attend the course.
