Population and Social Statistics

Population Statistics. With the ongoing round ofcensuses of population and housing, SIAP places a high priority on the related training needs. The training approach brings together producers and users to facilitate dialogue between the stakeholders on key issues on effective dissemination and use of census data. Focus areas include use of the 2010 round of population and housing census data for development planning and policy-making. thematic analyses, and the use of registers for producing population and social statistics. Upcoming priorities include dissemination of revised census recommendations, linking censuses of population and agriculture and applications of small-area estimation techniques.
Vital Statistics. A concerted programme for developing and improving accuracy and completeness of statistics generated by civil registration and vital statistics systems has been put in place under the guidance of the ESCAP Committee on Statistics. SIAP conducts training/workshops aiming to enhance knowledge and skills of vital statisticians and civil registration officials in producing, compiling and assessing the quality of vital statistics and improve their understanding of concepts, sources and methods of the statistics and indicators derived from vital statistics and their uses.

Labour Force Statistics. Working closely with the ILO, SIAP provides training on standards, classifications and recommendations on labour force concepts and definitions and analysis of data on labour issues such as informal employment, informal workers and labour migration.
